Chinese Astrology Elements: Metal, Water,Wood, Fire And Earth
There are five basic Chinese Astrology Elements that the Chinese believe everything on the planet is related to in some form. These five elements are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. In Chinese astrology elements also represent movement, change and development. The Chinese astrology elements also have polarities called Yin and Yang. When a person is in balance then the movement of the five elements is slow and stable. When one is out of balance then the five elements are unstable and unpredictable. When one is in balance one can live in peace and harmony, when one isn’t all hell can break loose.
In the physical sense Metal stands for mineral, gold, jewelry, iron, rock or something hard. In terms of people characteristics people born under the Metal element are very orderly and principled. They like their living spaces neat, clean and organized. They are excellent calculators. They live by the word “Quality”. They should avoid dry places.
Water represents liquid, fluidity and coldness. Water element people are imaginative, thinkers and philosophers. They keep their own secrets. They prefer to freelance as opposed to being tied to one job. They are very clever and multi task including having multiple professions.
Wood stands for trees and thing made from wood sources. People born under the element of Wood are highly skilled artisans and artists. They are at the top of their professions due to the level of their skills. They believe in working hard and like to stay busy. They have a tendency to waste money. They should avoid strong winds and drafts. The element of Fire stands for the Sun; fire its self, heat, light or something hot. People born under the Fire element have magnetic and attractive personalities that draw people to them. They do not like to be alone. They are very sensitive. They are loyal in relationships but can be emotional. They should avoid locations that are too moist or too hot. The last element is the Earth. Earth represents soil and dust or ground. Earth element people are loyal servants. Their personalities are idealistic but they are also very ambitious. They tend to have dual personalities. They like to be treated like they are important and they want to receive what they give.
People born under the Earth element should avoid marshy lands and moisture. With the Elements as with any of the other aspects of Chinese astrology there are relationships that are harmonious and inharmonious between them.
Metal can hold Water, Water can help a tree, which is Wood to grow, Wood can help Fire to burn, Fire helps produce dust (Earth) and Earth helps minerals (Metal) to form. This idea in Chinese Astrology Elements is called affinity relationships. Water is considered the Mother of Wood because it helps the tree grow. Wood is the Mother of Fire because when it burns a fire is created. Fire is the Mother of Earth. The ash fire creates becomes dust and Earth. Earth is Metal’s mother because from minerals in the earth metal is formed. Metal is the mother of Water because when metal melts it becomes liquid (Water). The elements can also oppose each other. Some elements have destructive relationships to each other. These are called relationships of enmity.
Water can put out Fire. Fire can also evaporate Water. Wood can break the earth. If we strike the Earth with a plank it separates but the Earth can bury the Wood. Fire can melt Metal but not if it is extinguished first. Earth can make Water disappear through absorption but water can cover land/Earth. Finally Metal can cut Wood but can become dull before breaking it completely. In conclusion one can say that depending on the element that one is born under astrologically there can be either a relationship of affinity or enmity depending on what the element is to other elements. The Chinese Astrology elements like other aspects of Chinese astrology are determined by the date and time of ones’ birth.
